Working on a Netflix show

Currently, Netflix's biggest hit is its first original series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey. The show was released in 2013 and has been renewed for two more seasons. Many other original shows have followed and you can see them all on Netflix’s website. You could be an extra or stand-in in one of these shows if you apply to auditions on their website. As with any film production company, it may be hard to get your foot in the door unless there’s an open casting call specifically seeking people with no experience—you never know until you try! Make sure to check out their auditions frequently—the show's producers seem to post new ones regularly.

Creating your own content

Similar to building a brand, creating your own content allows you to set yourself apart from others. Take advantage of services like Snapchat, Twitter and Vine to develop unique and engaging ways to share your insights with others. While it may take time and some trial-and-error before you get into your groove, once you do it's going to be hard for other people to compete with your work. By creating an entertaining daily vlog or a funny Snapchat story about what happened on your way home from work, for example, you could soon have thousands of followers who eagerly await seeing what sort of wacky content they'll get next.

Using the product (and finding bugs!)

Even if it’s not your dream gig, getting paid to try out new products has its perks. You’ll have access to beta versions of some of your favorite apps or even games that haven’t been released to everyone yet. While it can be tough at times (you’re essentially providing free QA), testing products and services from companies big and small will help you decide if you want to pursue testing as a full-time gig in retirement, or just do it as an extra side hustle every now and then. Plus, working as an in-house tester can get you insights into how your company does business.

Is it steady income?

Yes, it’s steady income if you can watch tv shows on Netflix every hour of every day. The more hours in day,the better your income will be because there are so many shows and movies that need to be watched. You get paid for each episode of tv show or movie that you watch. This can definitely put some money in your pockets if you put in the work of watching at least two episodes of tv shows per day. It doesn’t sound like much but imagine watching four episodes a day? Eight episodes a day?! Your paycheck will add up pretty quickly depending on how long your company gives breaks between each TV show or movie they play to workers like yourself who enjoy sitting and watching these types of programs.

When do they want me?

We’re looking for someone to be on call 24/7 (excepting only of course, emergencies that are handled by our full-time staff). We understand that as humans, sometimes our habits take over. Because we want to make sure you can do your best work, and that it’s fun and exciting, we think you deserve to set your own hours. Just let us know what’s going on with either an email or message through Slack. We trust our team members and expect nothing less than perfect attendance as well as awesome output because of it.

What am I getting paid exactly?

$13,000-$20,000/month (Depending on experience) How much hours do I need to work per week: 20-40 hours/week What’s my working day going to look like?: Binge watch your favorite shows in between answering emails and fielding phone calls. Time off? Oh sure, maybe one afternoon per week. All kidding aside... it really depends on how hard you want to work at it. The more time you put into your work, the more money you make. But it's not easy if that's all you're doing!

How long can I stay in this position before getting promoted/fired?

The answer to that question will vary depending on your level of performance and how much you stand out from your peers. If other employees are doing similar work as yours, but are not performing nearly as well, it's likely you'll last longer than they will. If nobody else in your office can do what it is that you do (for example, if everyone around you leaves a mess everywhere they go), then staying in that position forever would not be unheard of because management would have no choice but to keep promoting or firing whomever performs poorly. However, if your job performance matches up pretty well with other employees who do similar work and manage to make themselves stand out somehow (for example, by keeping their work area very clean), then promotions may come more quickly.

Can I network with other employees, creators, etc.?

Absolutely. You’ll have access to our creative and production teams and will be working closely with them in order to develop new show ideas, pitches, and formats. You’ll also be networking with other members of our in-house talent agency who work together to cast shows that are being developed here. It’s part of your role to help keep your eyes peeled for future stars while watching content on Netflix so don’t worry about getting too close—we have plenty of space.

Does being an employee mean my content will be controlled by the company so it won’t go viral?

The videos that go viral are usually just by chance. We will not be looking at the amount of views your content gets. The only feedback we will be giving is on how well it relates to our company values and if it ties in with them. You will not have to change your content at all, but if your idea does connect with one of our company values then you will get paid for it. It’s up to you whether or not you want to submit something that connects with a value and gets paid more, or if you want to submit something unrelated so that there won’t be any bias during review.
